Are Multi Level Marketing Meetings Time Wasters?
Multi level marketing meetings, the life blood of old style MLM systems. Remember how painful they were? Are you still doing them? All of us attended many meetings as they were supposed to have a few goals. The goal, amongst others, to convert our prospects to business builders… Is this a successful downline recruiting process? No way Jose. What was the conversion rate? Mind boggling… 1:100 of those that CAME to the meetings decided to do the business. But don’t forget, that is only AFTER the 1:100 that DECIDED to come to the meetings.
Remember the Pain?
Do you recall the many painful phone calls you made? Feels familiar? The, squirm, humiliation... Your calls confirming with prospects their intention to attend the network marketing business opportunity meeting. Or later callling and calling, perhaps begging them, of where they are…
Yes they’re coming… Yes they’re on the way. Yes, but the traffic is bad… No more answering the phone… You’ve lost a friend… They’re now even afraid to join you for coffee. Or something else familiar… We’re so desperately looking out for them at the meeting. So anxious, we truth be told, completely ignored the poor suckers we invited who turned up for the mlm business opportunity meeting. Now that is what I call a mega waste of time and coffee money. How many Starbucks is that? Don’t bother… It’s a lot of money on the table. There is only one winner… It’s Starbucks that’s laughing all the way to the bank. Let me break down the old reasons for meetings. They are... - Recruitment and Leverage
- Encouragement
- Information
- Evaluation
I’m discussing only Recruitment and Leverage here.
Recruitment & Leverage Yeah... Sure
Traditional multi level marketing applied a modified sales funnel for recruiting downlines... The method crudely blindly hurled at prospects increasingly heavy artillery to convince them to join the business was the crude technique. Plainly said, it’s the equivalent of, the more desperate the situation, the more desperate the measures. Bear with me, because I’m going to show how getting your MLM success is difficult with the method you’re been taught to use… The first stage of the recruitment process is you. Yup - alone. If the suspect is warm, you usually bring your more experienced upline for the second stage. This is already very optimistic. The second stage is where the closing is done (hopefully). This rarely happens. Most successful uplines don’t support their downlines well - it’s physically impossible -they just don’t have the time to close individually. There’s now a need for leverage. So… The third step uses B.O.M.s, business opportunity meetings. This leverages the enthusiasm of a small group of hard core people and your superstar uplines. The superstars’ job is to brutally close your uncertain prospects. They’ll show how home based business opportunities gave them financial freedom. Now if the small business opportunity presentation fails to convert... The fourth and final attempt is to drag the prospect to the usual semi-annual big conventions. Yeah right. I’m incredulous too. What are the odds of getting someone to the big multi level marketing conventions? Big conventions are designed to transform the small business opportunity perception into something big and professional. They’re meant to mysteriously transfer the “energy” and “enthusiasm”… Well so the logic goes. The technique is to simply increase the credibility of each presenter the suspect faces at each stage of the sales process. Never mind the time and cost in “persuading” the already reluctant prospect to go or more importantly your loss of self-confidence as you keep failing…
So The Old Way Or Is There Another Way?
Is the old style of multi level marketing recruitment via meetings wrong? No. But it’s as the saying goes, horses for courses. How can it be when a millionaire is created every 2 days in my company? But there is a more gentle, and dare I say more efficient way of recruitment where meetings now play a different but still necessary role in your network marketing success. Listen, I'm not kidding around. If the old multi level marketing way worked for you stick to it. If it didn’t, what’s the harm in trying out something new?
